L'Art'cherche - Illustrations fantastiques - Affiche - 2017

As part of the second edition of "L'Art'Cherche", the Oceanological Observatory is pleased to present the annual and unpublished exhibition “Illustrations fantastiques” on the Albert Sagols esplanade, in the open air in front of the Observatory.

This exhibition presents around twenty scientific illustrations from the 17th to the 19th century, taken from precious works belonging to the eminent zoologist and founder of the Arago Laboratory, Professor Henri de Lacaze-Duthiers, and held in the Arago Laboratory library.

It is highlighting great naturalists and illustrators through their drawings of the sea and its flora and fauna, and reminds us that, over the centuries, advances in exploration and observation techniques have led to a better understanding and representation of the marine world.
